| Q & A
The external software needed to compile and use the latest builds can be reached from this page.
Below are listed some thoughts.
To participate in the development you must be able to use CVS, which is short for Concurrent Versions System and is the system we use to share and merge our coding efforts.
You should be well acquainted with the object oriented paradigm and have at least some experience of the Java programming language.
You need to be able to sacrifice some time on the project altar as there is a lot of job to be done and done well. Reimplementing the Universe is not a five minute job.
No experience from other MUDs is required as there will be few similarities anyway. Some roleplaying experience could be useful but is also not required.
Knowledge of the real world, such as meterology, geology and anatomy is welcome as the project aims to be as close as possible to real life.
Lingustics students are welcome to lend a hand in the natural language processing detail.
Hopefully, the task list will hold a few open jobs. This is a good place to start.
We need wild ideas. The rule is that if you can imagine it then you should be able to do it with the game kernel. We just might have overlooked something so please send in your ideas. The idea will most likely not be implemented but we will make sure that the code doesn't prevent you from writing it yourself.
If you have downloaded the code and found some small project that you want to undertake then contact us, you just might get write access to the cvs.
Worldbuilders should anticipate the coming of the y3k homepage where we will keep you updated on our own game based on the Oneiro engine.
In the past Oneiro has gone by many names, including EntityMUG and the Entity Project. Doing a search for "entity" on the web will leave you with an enourmous number of pages to wade through. Needless to say, we needed a name that would make it possible for interested parties to find our website. The other, more important reason is that our previous names sucked so badly we were ashamed of talking about the project :p
The motto for this project has always been "if you can think of it, then you should be able to do it". Limiting the game to only allowing scenes from real life would be tiresome. What we want to do is allow you to live out a dream.
Oneiro is what you get if you take the greek word for "dream" and transcribe it into ISO 8859-1.
The Oneiro logo was skillfully designed by Andreas Öman.
